Not sure about that, Happy Crappy Jackson. What is realistic is often a question of attitude. Many Hungarians I know seem to take pride in finding the downsides to any proposal or sitution. Perhaps they see this as being rational or realistic. But it’s not necessarily any more realistic than seeing the upside.

If this sounds like a cliche then I’m sorry, but on holiday in India I saw some of the happiest people I’ve ever met – many of them street beggars who owned no more than the clothes they were wearing.

Surely, it’s just a cultural predisposition to be negative? The Hungarians asses have been royally kicked so many times.

Unless you are hooked up to a Morphine pump, most people are not “Very Happy” all the time. I think Hungarians simply view the world more realistically than what’s shown on TV. (People with ear to ear smiles even thought they owe $500,000 and are about to jump off their local bridge or high rise.)
