An official rebuke was handed to the Budapest authorities on Friday by Máté Szábo, Hungary’s national ombudsman for “fundamental rights,” following the destruction in March by city authorities of an encampment of shacks in a forested area of District IX. According to Szábo, the authorities’ move to pull down the shantytown without providing some kind of alternative accommodation violated the former occupants’ “right to human dignity.” That may be true, but it seems to us that the problem isn’t that the dignity of some homeless people was violated, but that some formerly homeless people had their homes torn down. Just something to consider! [index.hu]

well said Erik…
I have a friend who is homeless and lives in Nyugati. a lot of guys like him never had a chance – given up for adoption, bought up in a home and a conviction for assault for defending himself against some drunk shitheads who tried to beat him up. Guess who the police believe?
