It’s barely halfway through the year but we may already have to give the award for dumbest criminals of the year to a pair of gunrunners who inadvertently tipped the police off to their activities. Apparently the police in District IX got wind of the two after one of them sent several text messages to a police-run hotline for the hearing impaired, offering guns and ammo for sale. The cops arranged a rendezvous with the sellers on Üllői utca, where a 24-year-old woman was waiting for them with a loaded gun and box of ammo. She and her 49-year-old male accomplice were arrested and now face charges – and a lifetime of humiliation. [index.hu]
Laugh if you want but I have sent plenty of messages to the Nigerian scammers saying that I work for ‘Budapest Rendőrség Kft’ and giving the fax, address and phone number of the police headquarters. Some of them get quite upset when they find out who their messages have gone to.
