In an interesting sign of how tough things are for public enterprises in Hungary, and how the government prioritizes spending on such enterprises, yesterday two different mini-bailouts of state bodies were announced: A roughly HUF 10 billion “top-up” for the national police, and an emergency HUF 1.4 billion subsidy for the perpetually struggling Hungarian State Opera.
