Always on the forefront of the latest local trends, top tabloid Blikk has revealed that the “latest craze” among Hungarian teen girls is posing for pictures outside in the cold with barely any clothes on. A “social media expert” quoted by the paper said the trend probably came from the West, while a psychologist opined that it was another example of teens resorting to “extreme methods” to get attention. Either way, it’s certainly a lot more wholesome than another emerging trend we’re now about to call.

Barely two years after a Bonyhád man butchered his brother and marinates him in marjoram, a murder trial with a similarly spicy twist opened in Debrecen. According to court documents, one Zsolt R. (right) killed his neighbor Erzsébet K. and then made a pörkölt out of her. But like all good Hungarian chefs, he first tenderized her dismembered bits in a paprika marinade. (And yes, we read this in Bors, the tabloid whose name means “Pepper” in English.) In Zsolt’s defense, he didn’t actually eat Erzsike néni or feed her to anyone else, only wanted to make her remains look like unwanted leftovers.

Of course, we know that these two cases don’t fulfill the traditional “three examples and it’s a trend” rule of trash journalism. But if two people have been caught in the last two years marinating their murder victims, the odds seem pretty good that at least one other person has gotten away with it.
