Several animals, including a dog and some horses, as well as at least four people, were reportedly the victims of an unintentional poisoning yesterday at Budapest’s Kincsem Park racetrack. Meanwhile, at almost exactly the same time that this was happening, activists from Greenpeace staged a protest at a factory in Almásfüzitő over the continued delivery of toxic waste to a sludge pool on the site, potentially threatening countless individuals in surrounding Komárom County.
In both cases the operators of the sites downplayed the threat: The owners of the sludge dump reported the activists for trespassing, while the manager of the racetrack said no one except a cat had died, and the cat’s death was due to “entirely unrelated” circumstances.
