“Date Rape” Robbery Continues To Go Unreported

date-rape-drug.jpgWay back in January 2007, we reported anecdotal evidence that the “date rape” drug rohypnol (or similar) was being used by petty criminals in the area around Kálvin tér. This trend remains under-reported in the media, even though the odd story does surface that has all the hallmarks of the classic put-to-sleep-and-keep robbery. Here, MNO, the online version of endearingly naive conservative rag Magyar Nemzet, reports the case of a Szolnok man approached on the street by two unfamiliar women. Scarcely believing his luck, the guy invited them back to his place for a drink – and that’s the last thing he remembers. When he finally came to the following day, he noticed that the ladies of the had made off with around Ft 80,000-worth of his belongings. The writers at Magyar Nemzet were probably similarly sedated – because they failed to make the obvious connection between booze, snooze and you lose.
