Less than a year ago, following a spat with former Hungarian national football team coach Erwin Koeman, captain Zoltán Gera announced he would temporarily retire from the national team. Since then, the national team has gone 0-3-1, scoring two goals and conceding 13. Gera meanwhile led Fulham to the Europa League final, only being stopped by a last minute Diego Forlán goal. So, following Koeman’s sacking last month, new coach Sándor Egervári spoke with Gera, who unsurprisingly said he’d love to return to the team, and he has already been announced to play in Hungary’s defeat to England on August 11th. That said, since Egervári has not named the mostly useless Sándor Torghelle for the squad and Gera is back in the fold, we might actually score a goal or two. [nol.hu/skysports.com]
