How about a little game of which one isn’t like the other?
- A seven-year-old boy saved the lives of three adults when he rescued them from Lake Balaton last month. A middle-aged man and two women had been swimming in Balatonszepezdfürdő when the man fell ill and one of the women became exhausted. The boy, Máté Czifra, was on his surfboard when he heard shouts of the adults asking for help. When he found them, they held onto his surfboard and he swam to the shore with them. He was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the local beach association. [rtlklub.hu]
- Three days after young Máté saved the three swimmers, a 16-year-old boy’s life was saved by a stranger after he was struck by lightning at the Nyíregyháza Zoo. The boy and his father were standing under a tall tree when lightning hit. The man suffered only minor injures but the boy lost consciousness and his heart stopped. Another visitor managed to resuscitate the boy, who is currently recuperating. (A camera image of the heroic rescue is above left.) Apparently the lifesaver not only didn’t get a certificate of appreciation, he didn’t even get his name in the paper. [blikk.hu]
- Ildikó Pelcz-Gáll, a Fidesz member of the European Parliament, yesterday submitted a petition to the European Commission sticking up for the new government’s controversial proposal for re-writing the country’s media laws, which are said to include sweeping new restrictions on the press. As part of her petition Pelcz-Gáll requested that the EU help the government “prevent the publication of negative reports” on the new bill. Pelcz-Gáll (above right) gets a base annual salary of €84,000, a generous expense account, and presumably a decent cut from whatever Fidesz skims off the top of the economy during its tenure in power.
