
This isn’t actually a disgrace, unless you’re one of those people who sees red whenever you see anything that looks like the red-and-white Árpád striped flag beloved by Hungarian nationalists. Anyway, several Hungarian towns – including Vác, Dunakeszi, Gödöllő and Szolnok – are participating in an initiative to make pedestrian crossings safer by replacing their traditional black and white “zebra” crossings with ones that are white and red, the idea being that these colors are more likely to make people pay attention. We’d agree – especially if, for example, the crossing is in front of a synagogue or Roma cultural center. [szabadfold.hu]
