Perhaps feeling that Budapest’s other kerts were just too damn bohemian and that Holdudvar was not posh enough, the people behind Ötkert have launched Budapest’s first posh kert, which on the weekends becomes a disco-kert, so packed that I’m not sure if getting a drink at the bar or moving around is the more difficult endeavor.

The opening party was two weekends ago on the 12th, and you can see some of the pictures here. If they’re not the best, it’s because holding my camera steady for long enough proved impossible with all the people frequently bumping into me. The place was so packed that there was even a long line waiting to get in as a I left around 1 AM.

In terms of prices, a korsó of some unnamed beer ran for Ft 500, but when I was there they ran out of korsó mugs and served us the beer in smaller pohár-sized tumblers, while still charging us for korsós. The only reason I didn’t go back to complain was that I didn’t feel like standing in line for another ten-plus minutes to get back a few hundred forints worth of change.

Nonetheless, a positive is that there was no toilet attendant, and the facilities appeared quite clean. Also, Budapest’s beautiful people were well in attendance. So, if you’ve been looking for a new kert close to the Danube or looking for a kert without the bohos and the hippies, this is the place for you. But if you go to the boho kerts because you like the atmosphere, then you’re probably better off giving this place a pass.

went there on opening night and the cash machine wasn’t working. offered to pay exact change, with a tip, for a couple beers but they told me to wait another ten minutes. asked if i could have a couple beers while waiting (mind you, the place had about 5 people in it at the time) and the staff refused. the bouncers were friendly enough gorillas. nice courtyard bar, but not a garden! to sum up, i think this is one kert to be missed.
recently checked out another place on nagy diofa utca 8, but didn’t have a chance to check the service- at least there they have some greenery and it’s actually a “garden”
Bud, you’re thinking of Grandió, and a review for that will be up later this week.
I thought it was great place, maybe some hickups in the beginning, but otherwise great fun.
On the other hand i do like more places with beautiful people, so no wonder.
Was also there opening night and couldn’t wait to leave. Pretentious
people, horrible music, slow, untrained bartenders, and bad drinks
(yes, it turns out it is possible to screw up a simple vodka and
tonic). Zoltan, the men’s WC may have been clean, but the women’s
was a bio-hazard zone.
No idea what’s going on this picture, but the guy on the left was the bar manager opening night.

Maybe if they didn’t pick the staff on looks, things might run smoother.
The underground night-lifesters of BP already call it Dokk-kert
