As if Monday’s story about insane asylum sex abuse wasn’t enough ick for one week, now we have a story from down in Kaposvár that may be even more awful. According to various sources, cops have arrested a family of three accused of having enslaved a number of unfortunates from in and around the Southwest Hungarian town.
The suspects – a middle-aged man, his wife and his father – are believed to have posted ads in newspapers targeting impoverished job-seekers, whom they then held captive and forced to work on construction projects without pay.
The slaves had apparently been held in captivity for years, confined to a shack without electricity or running water, and sometimes denied food. Eight people were found to live under these conditions, but there may be more, as some managed to escape.
Kaposvár Police Chief Gábor Kemény said the suspects sometimes beat the workers with whips if they worked less than the demanded 16 hours per shift.
Adding to the sordidness of the tale is the fact that the police had been investigating the case for a year before raiding the family house. For their part, the police said information about the situation was difficult to gather, owing to the escape of some slaves who then went into hiding.
The family is also said to have terrorized the whole neighborhood, one of the suspects having allegedly attacked an ambulance worker with an axe. The three now face up to five years in prison, which, judging from what they are accused of having done, doesn’t seem like nearly long enough.
So, now I suppose all sorts of vigilante justice will show up in Kaposvar and unleash their own form of Hell upon the land. What type of people allow themselves to be enslaved by a family of sub-humans? By the second day, I would have devised a way to remove the brain of this so called “middle aged man” with one clean swipe of my rusty shovel or possibly a neck break followed by a little blood letting. The wife and father? Hmmm. Maybe I’d slap the pigs around a while with metal rods or branches and then toss the old farts in. I hear pigs love sub-human blood… This is a disturbing story. This kind of crap isn’t supposed to happen in 2010.
