Since there’s an election coming up and because in these years Hungary’s politicians actually do things that benefit the population and not just themselves (or at least promise to), Csaba Horváth, the Socialists’ nominee to succeed Gábor Demszky as Budapest mayor has announced the revolutionary idea to send guards down into the city’s underpasses. The underpasses, which run the gamut from unpleasant to not-fit-for-cockroaches have a tendency to attract the less-than-savory types, and given the heavy traffic during the day is a pickpocket’s paradise. Horváth said the Budapest council nearly unanimously supported the proposal, leaving us to wonder which council members thought the underpasses were just fine?
