The Hungarian Tourist Board and Budapest Gyórgyfürdői és Hévizei Zrt. (the company overseeing Budapest’s thermal spas) are seeking damages from Life.com after it included the Széchenyi Baths in its list of “The World’s ‘Germiest’ Attractions”. Following loads of negative comments, many of them from non-Hungarians, the site removed the baths from its list, but not before our good friend Google Cache stored it.
The editors of Life.com have since apologized, but the Budapest spa people are looking at suing for libel. While we’ve heard rumors that this is another concerted plan by foreigners to devalue Hungarian property so that they can then snatch it up on the cheap, we’re gonna go with lazy journalism by a hack who’s never even been to the baths, as anyone who has knows there’s enough chlorine in the water that the vapors evaporating from you after you leave are enough to sanitize everything within a three foot radius. Budapest’s baths are notoriously jam-pack full of chlorine, spent semen, and especially fresh and stale urine. I guess it took someone from the States to notice this, wow!!!
I bet you were salivating when you wrote that comment, weren’t you?
