Long Expired Colbert Bridge Joke Resurfaces on Google Maps

colbert-bridge-google.jpg

Following his questionably tasteful but nonetheless hilarious attempt to have the M0 bridge named after himself, American comic Stephen Colbert was informed by Hungarian ambassador András Simonyi that he’d pretty much have to die first, thus deflating Colbert’s sails and bringing an end to the free publicity Hungary received via this joke that ended up being dragged out too long.

Although the bridge in the end was named the Megyeri Bridge (which wasn’t even all that popular with those legitimately voting), someone at index.hu noticed that on Google Maps at least, the results of the original online poll prevailed, as you can see in the image above. As index.hu noted, the font reveals that it’s not a part of the official Google Maps, but part of the user contributed information database, meaning that it’s actually the work of some prankster, who refuses to let this joke finally die. Still, we bet Stephen’s happy.
