Report: Government Poised to Ban Fish Bowls, Snake Food

Fish bowls and round bird cages would be banned and only dogs and hoofed animals allowed to be tied to posts if a proposed regulation on the keeping of pets is passed. Government Spokesman Domokos Szollár said the new regulation would also mandate a special permit for the running of pet shops, and an annual checkup by the authorities. Meanwhile, the selling of animals which die without their parents' care would be prohibited. One pet shop owner said the last point raises difficult practical questions, as baby mice tend to die when separated from their mothers, but when they get older they aren't so good for feeding to other animals.
