Gypsy Leader Tries Building Anti-Semitic Bridges with Jobbik

csaba-kallai.jpgFollowing last week’s wrestlemania between Jobbik supporters and Gypsies in Sajóbábony, Jobbik chairman Gábor Vona gave a speech in the town. Vona blamed the secret services for stirring up anti-Magyar Gárda (“Hungarian Guard”) sentiments, and said that Jobbik is not opposed to Gypsies but to crime, and therefore law-abiding Gypsies had nothing to worry about. Csaba Kállai (pictured), a national Gypsy leader, tried to find common ground with the Jobbik chairman at the event, saying “Gypsies eat the same things as Hungarians. There are people who won’t eat pork, but us Gypsies do,” signaling that Jobbik should be concerned with another minority in Hungary. Nothing like anti-Semitism to help bring people together… []

And here is what people were saying back before we forced readers to use Facebook to comment. Weren't those the days?
  1. TDS says:

Yep, basic psychology: Nothing brings people together quite like the identification of a common enemy…

  2. Benny the dwarf has an ITCH says:

Sweet jeebus. Hungary’s future looks rosy.

  3. Beleznay Balazs David says:

The man who claimes to be a “leader” among gypsy Hungarians, is not aware of the extensive historical cross cultural links between European Gypsies and European Jews.
To pander to Mr. Vona and his antisemitic Party is a disgrace and a very stupid political move.
Mr. Kallai does NOT represent me, nor anybody I know, but only himself. Despite his excellent Fedora Hat, I must say I find his words depressingly idiotic.
