Budapest Boulevard Receives Massive Facelift, Unfortunately Only Online

kossuth-lajos-street-nice.jpg

Ever wondered what Kossuth Lajos Street would look like if it wasn’t covered in graffiti and there was actually some harmony in the way shop fronts looked? You’re unlikely to see it in reality anytime soon, but someone with too much free time on their hands and some skills at Photoshop has shown us how good it could look, as opposed to what you’re more likely to find in reality. One of the few things Budapest has going for it – even now – is that it still has small shops. If you’re prepared to look, you can still get a vacuum cleaner rewired instead of doing the shitty, wasteful western thing of throwing it out and buying a new one.

If that entails having a hotch-potch of shop fronts, so be it. FFS, avoid the cloned, suave, false uniformity of “superior” places like London or anywhere in the UK for that matter.

Much more important, perhaps, is to instill a sense of customer service into the people who work behind the facades. I had one positive customer experience in 8 years there – and that was courtesy of MAV at Keleti!!!

Sometimes I think the graffiti ‘artists’ and the shop ‘designers’ went to the same school of art to create that run down, looks like a ghetto feel that makes many of the Budapest streets so appealing. Along with the dog turds, endless piss trails running into the gutter and the masterpiece is complete. Theres been many a time I’ve kept my eyes above shop level and admired the beauty of the place.

Well i for one thinks that the make up is just yet another significant
example of the non-existing hungarian identity.
WHOAAA YES, lets turn everything black and corporate, lets ditch
anything that has just a little messy charm.
To me the draft is a friggin nightmare!
