Concerns as “Klepto-Narcolepsy” Declared an Official Trend in Hungary

According to portal origo.hu, a 40-year-old man was recently arrested after falling asleep in the process of burglarizing a Székesfehérvár restaurant. The man, who was released from prison in August after a previous theft conviction, had apparently broken into the place with the aim of stealing booze, but decided to have a few too many while doing it, and passed out, only to be found the next morning by the manager. An odd story, to be sure, but one that shouldn’t be laughed off, because it’s part of a larger and potentially ominous trend.

Back in June of 2007, a burglar was found similarly asleep on the job in BAZ County, while in August of ’06 a cat burglar got caught napping in Szentes.

So following the traditional “three makes a trend” rule of shitty journalism followed by most mainstream western newspapers, we can now say that burglars falling asleep and being caught is now an official trend in Hungary. Bonus points for readers who can identify other such stories of sleeping burglars, or juicy EU grants for dealing with this only recently-identified but troubling social phenomena.
