Work on Margit Bridge to Temporarily Stop, Become More Expensive

margit-hid-hdr.jpg

No one expects that renovation work on the Margit Bridge will finish on time, especially considering the numerous delays that surrounded work on the Szabadság Bridge. It should come as no surprise then that an independent surveyor working on the project has ordered a temporary stop to all work on the Margit Bridge, since it’s been determined that the bridge is in even worse shape than previously believed, and a new survey of the bridge needs to be undertaken index.hu reported.

Index.hu contacted the Budapest mayor’s office who told the portal that this will not affect current work on the bridge, which is not part of the renovations so much as preparation work for them. Index.hu has promised to publish all contractual papers related to the bridge’s renovation in an effort to make the process as transparent as possible, and stated that they are awaiting these new papers. What we’re waiting to find out, however, is if this new survey is going to increase the price tag of the renovations, and by how much?
