Expat News (I): Budapest Business Journal Website Drops Subscription to Budapest Business Journal

bbj-shrinks.jpgIt’s hardly news that the rise of the Internet has been cruel to traditional print newspapers. But it seems that the Budapest Business Journal – which at one point was the business newspaper of record for foreigners in Hungary – has taken this cruelty to a whole new level. While prowling around on the bbj’s website this morning we noticed that they are not even bothering to upload the now bi-weekly paper onto the site anymore. (The last issue we can find is dated Feb. 5.) Which seems especially weird given that whomever is “editing” the site has enough time to copy stories from around the web about the Iraqi PM visiting Russia, Turkey negotiating with the IMF and car sales in Slovenia, just to name three of the more off-topic Google-baiting posts of the last 24 hours. Really, folks, if you are going to still kill all those trees every two weeks at least pretend they didn’t die in vain…

And here is what people were saying back before we forced readers to use Facebook to comment. Weren't those the days?

I thought they re-branded as the “Bloomberg Business Journal”?
