Given the age of the BKV’s fleet of Ikarus buses, it usually doesn’t take too long before a story shows up of some mishap involving the trusty but way-past-their-expiration-date workhorse buses. You might have read of the bendy bus that ripped in two a few months ago at Astoria, pictures of which you can see courtesy of BKV Figyelő. While this new method of early retirement for the buses was a nice change of pace, the traditional method for finally taking a bus out of commission is self-immolation, which is why we were pleased to see via hirszerzo.hu that a 67 bus caught fire at Örs Vezér tere (the picture above is from a different BKV bus fire). Fortunately, no one was injured, but it does mean the annual bus inferno series will be starting early this year if “spring training” has already begun.

Why is it that people think the name Ikarus is good for calling their bus, truck, or paragliding company?
