Third Time May Be the Charm for Hungary’s Eurovision Entry

This year has proven difficult for Hungary in terms of finding someone to embarrass them at the annual Eurovision contest. Not only was the first entry by Mark Zentai disqualified due it to appearing somewhere else prior to the competition, but the second entrant Kátya Tompos, perhaps realizing she’d just pull a Csézy, withdrew citing scheduling conflicts. The latest entry is Zoli Ádok, who (as far as we’ve been able to determine) will perform the song in the video above. It’s so awful, it just might work…

UPDATE: We’ve switched the video to the English version of the song. You can now enjoy it in all of its Eurovision-ready craptastic glory.

Some of you may remember the old days when music was written and performed by musicians. Now we have drum machines, beat-boxes, sample-loops, boy-bands, DJs, and wealthy producers. I miss the music, maybe I’m just too old…

  2. Axeman Eugene says:

@Stan – Aye! Bring back Summer ’68. I’m not ready for the Fletcher Memorial Home just yet.

  3. Gargoyle says:

And are there any vocals that don’t go through a mixer anymore?

Maybe I’m just getting to old…plastic music for the plastic generation.

    Harrumph!

  4. Zoltan says:

Gargoyle, I believe you’re thinking about autotuners, which have been a serious blight on the music industry, allowing anyone with a completely atonal voice to sound semi-decent to non-discerning listeners. Most of the popular music acts today consist of performers, not musicians.

  5. Gargoyle says:

    Thanks Zoltan,

Alongside modern music, I am also technologically challenged! :-)

Seriously though, the music industry today seems so focused on looks and marketability that raw talent hardly matters; especially when it can be manufactured in a studio.

I guess that’s why I appreciate really good live and unplugged performances.

Sit through a recording session with the completely tone-deaf, no-voice Ashley Simpson for example, and you’ll see why producers need all the technical miracles they can get these days, and nerves of steel, plus infinite patience. Come to think of it, producers sometimes earn those big bucks.

  7. Gargoyle says:

Ashley is even worse than her sister Jessica, I imagine trying to make them sound good qualifies for “genius pay”!

  8. Doktor Ki (v.12) says:

    Video killed the radio star…

Samey, anodyne (and not in the good relaxing way, just the too much morphine way) Europop with no hooks, breakdowns or even what one could call a real tune.

Looks like we have a winner for Eurovision!

Unless ‘We don’t wanna Put in’ from Gruzia wins.

  9. Gargoyle says:

    LOL….

Now that’s a song I could vote for!

  10. klara says:

:) don’t know, i kinda like the song. at least it has rhythm not just white noise but perhaps what did it most was the fact that i like contrasts. the beginning simply seemed like a memory from the movie “coma”, then it went into a gene kelly musical, on to some martha graham then finally some yellow brick road dancing? at least it is fun. :)

  11. Gargoyle says:

How about; Akos on vocals, Lajko felix on hegedu, lyrics taken from Petofi Sandor.

Get a genius to arrange it, and do it for next year!

    G

  12. Stan says:

    Gargoyle,
“Get a genius to arrange it”.

Sorry, I’m pretty much booked for the year…

  13. Gargoyle says:

Stan, your country needs you; how can you turn your back on them now?

    G

  14. anon600ad says:

At least this one had good production values (audio) as compared with many of the others I’ve seen or heard. Perhaps it’s not the most original song, but at least it doesn’t make me want to tear off my own face.

  15. fidel says:

    The weirdest place
They murder people because of race
They eat corn and ketchup on pizza, yak,
and the largest group of employees are security people, second
    largest in advertising…
    Fuck this place!
    We’re outta here!
    Gone!
    Ghost!
    bye

  16. Stan says:

    When trolls attack…
