Chaos Breaks Out Over Hungary's 2009 Eurovision Entrant
Details are sketchy at the moment, but it appears that Mark Zentai, who had been set to represent Hungary at this year's Eurovision song contest, has been forced to withdraw after the song he was going to sing was declared invalid. In his place Kátya Tompos will be going to Moscow. We'll update this news flash as more details become available.
UPDATE: It's official.
UPDATE (II): OMG her song is called Magányos Csónak ("Lonely Rowboat") and it's just terrible.
UPDATE (III): But so is the song Zentai was going to sing.
UPDATE (IV): After taking a second listen to Kátya's howling - which was not easy - it seems like we would have been better off just denying that Zentai had broken the rules and threatened to sue anyone who said otherwise. Either way, we're hosed.
This song is made for her:
"I cant help about the shape Im in
I cant sing, I aint pretty and my legs are thin"
(Fleetwood Mac, "Oh Well" in case you're not old enough to remember)
stan :) NOW you tell her.
after reading your comments i'll do myself a favor and not listen to either.
Klara - oh, c'mon, don't be a sissy. Just don't try to listen to the whole thing twice, if you want to keep your sanity.
Aw, and the boy was cute, he could have brought in some pre-teen and grandma votes, a significant Eurovision demographic. Couldn't they have kept fuzzy-top and give him a new song?
The only thing I am unhappy about the Eurovision Song Contest is that the use of English, in the Eurovision Song Contest increases year by year.
As a native English speaker I think this is unfair!
It's certainly time to break the habit of "language imperialism", in the Eurovision Song Contest, and use a song, sung in Esperanto instead!
This is a serious suggestion, as you can see from the Esperanto music which is already available at http://www.vinilkosmo.com/?prs=listen or at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8837438938991452670
There's even cheesy Esperanto music available! See http://www.ipernity.com/home/56084
Isn't this song from "Valami Amerika 2"? Is this legal, by the way, from Eurovision point of view (just trying to make sure)? Don't be discouraged, the movie is pretty good, though...One rare occasion where the sequel is better than the first. Of course the script is unrealistic, but you get a few good laughs for the price of the ticket. Yes, the downside is that you have to listen to this song once again...
I think that the song needs to be *released* after October of the year before the year in which it is going to compete.
Brian,
People are still trying to revive that dead on arrival Esperanto? I have a better idea. Let's create a brand new language for this Babel we call EU. Each member state could contribute. Germans would give their grammar and the idiotic "der, die, das" nonsense. Serbs and Czechs would provide most of the words, (who needs wowels), swearing is best in Hungarian, etc. Give me a billion Euros and I'll put together something.
Hey Stan, How about a billion Zimbabwean dollars for you to top yourself and do humanity a favour...? (Zimbabwe is in Africa, BTW)
