Ground Squirrels to Join Anti-Gypsy Groundswell?
The ongoing saga of Hungary's Roma (Gypsy) minority took a strange turn this weekend, when the government hastily fired and then just as hastily reinstated the police chief of Miskolc, after he said at a Friday press conference that all the city's burglaries over the past two months had been "committed by people of a Gypsy origin." Oddly, the Socialist mayor of Miskolc, who you'd think would be among those calling for the chief's head, ended up sticking up for him instead. Odder still, the whole thing broke just as our friends at Chew.hu were publishing a guide to Hungarian Roma cuisine, which proves yet again that the ogres out there screaming for Gypsy blood have more in common with the Roma than they might think. Well, unless the ogres happen to be ürges.

COMMENT!I am taking this issue very seriously, and checking with my constituency regarding how to proceed.
Truth is truth,which is why the socialist mayor,and even the local gypsy leader (you left him out ) could do nothing but agree !
It was muggings, not burglaries. Gypsies are too dumb for burglaries.
The Chief forgot to perpetuate the fantasy that there isn't a problem with Roma crime. The people who can't forget stepped up. The double taxation has to end: hard(ly) working Hungarians who sometimes pay taxes that help subsidize the Roma I-don't-believe-in-Work Ethic, free housing and Did-you-drop-a-fucking-litter birth rate...and then get taxed again in a dark alley on the way back from the kocsma by Papa Roma and any number of kids/brothers (yes, they bring the kids along for some of these crime training sessions). But of course there's that comfy fanatasy--political correctness ensuring that nothing ever gets done, the issues don't get addressed.
Until the blatant racism of this country is fixed you will continue to have these problems. You don't want to support them in housing, jobs, and human rights, yet without jobs, housing and the fundamental basic human rights you will continue to blame them for their poor work ethic. How come they fare better in more tolerant countries like Cabada and the US? Blatant racism and exclusionism! If you really are better why do you not act so?

In my building where I work there is a Romani dentist (female too), 2 secretaries, (one full and one half Romani), and one engineer (half Romani)and the only time they faced racism was lately when the maintenance man hired 3 painters of Hungarian descent. It was really laughable because they could be fired but they all held their words and hoped that the painters learn that in Canada this behaviour is more to be laughed at than taken seriously.

Commment to Visitor. Believe it or not I do agree with you on one point: What has happened to the natives is disgusting and yes, everything in that video you saw was true. Sad history and many mistakes have been made in Europe and Canada regarding the rights of human beings. For a people to be strong, confident and emotionally healthy they need to have strong family connections. Anything that interfers with the family interfers with the souls for generations to come. Both the Romani and the Native Americans were victims of the foster care system. Both suffered past and present injustices. In the past most Romani when they come to Canada and the US did not state this fact and many are hidden and many do not even know their heritage. I am sorry you feel the Gypsies have been persecuting you and yours for years. Were your family once slaves, are you scared to leave your village, are your precious little ones forced to go to school for idiots, are you not allowed in some shops, are you forced to not disclose your heritage for fear of reprisal and scorn, are you not judged on your own merits or are you judged by your colour? It makes me so happy to hear that you care about Eskimos(they are nice people). I was beginning to think you were some kind of racist bigot. I have 2 Eskimo friends, let me know when you come to Canada I'll see if they will meet you at the airport.

Invitation is cancelled Laura. We do not want that culture in this nation. I totally agree with the mass of Hungarians that think there is a problem. Culture clash. I told them they are not welcome to come to Canada for the 2 months I was just there.
Too late they are already here and have always been here. Everyone I have meet from that culture have worked just as hard as every other Canadian. After a while they may decide to move on, kill you and sell your house. A csóróka is usually an unemployed or homeless person the Gyps lure to their home by promising to pay him for some odd job and then simply won't let him go. There are many variations on both.
