Former Hipster Magnet Tűzraktár’s Old Joint to Become Offices and a Business Hotel

tuzraktar_small.jpgOne of the great shortcomings of Budapest’s romkert scene is that since the kerts are usually in old disused buildings, the chances are fairly good that that disused old building will then be bought up, meaning the place will have to move. Perhaps the best example for this is West Balkán, which is currently in its fourth incarnation, and expected to move again soon. About a year and a half ago, we reported how boho cultural and arts center (and romkert) Tűzraktér, which had started as Tűzraktár, appeared to be closing for good. Well, as we reported this summer, that was not the case, albeit it did prove to be something of a let down.

Today, over at our business site realdeal.hu was a story about how the former location for Tűzraktár was going to be redeveloped into a hotel along with some flats and offices, thereby meaning the developers won another battle between them and Budapest’s bohemians. All is not dire, however! Check back tomorrow for some great news in terms of the local romkert scene, in what can be called the bohos strike back!
