Good news in the follow-up to yesterday’s war-mongering preview of the brewing face-off between the Tomcat-led far-right and a ticket office in Budapest’s Jewish district. Index.hu reports that the “flashmob” demonstration was scuppered by what we are calling a “counter flashmob” hastily arranged on Hollán Ernő utca near the Pest side of Margaret Bridge on Monday afternoon. Our dear friends and colleagues at Hungary Around the Clock write that the 40-50 far right protesters organized by blogger and troublemaker Tomcat found themselves confronted by hundreds of counter-demonstrators, including public figures such as National Election Commission member Gábor Halmai and District XIII Fidesz deputy György Szabó (who has publicly declared his Jewishness). The confrontation ended peacefully when police called on both sides to disperse, which is, of course, all part of the flashmob experience.
UPDATE: Someone even posted a video of the chaos:

this is the same Tomcat whos had a laugh about the British boy who’s been hit by a car in Budapest?
