So in case you hadn’t heard, Sunday is a big day in Hungary, with a very important and serious, major and, if we didn’t mention it, very important national referendum aimed at overturning fees on doctor visits, hospital stays and college attendance the government recently put in place to try to balance the books. (The posters above are from opposition party Fidesz and feature the snappy slogan “The Future Begins with a ‘Yes’”.) What it’s all really about we have no clue, but the people over here seem to know something about it. All we can say is that, if that’s really what most Hungarian nurses or doctors looked like, it’s hard to imagine anyone complaining about forking over Ft 300 for a quick physical. Vote early and often, and have a nice weekend.
