Fans of Budapest’s Kultiplex are being prevented from entering the premises, after local authorities sealed it off to the public, reports hirado.hu. After plans spread of a sit-in to prevent the tearing down of the structure, local authorities sent guards to make sure only Kultiplex employees could enter the building. One of the Kultiplex’s directors has called the action a “blockade of the building,” which has prevented people from entering the place since yesterday evening. Centrifuga Kft., who took over management of the building from Kulitplex Kft. claim they have a contract with the District IX local government for another year and a half, and therefore the local government does not have a right to knock the building down. Consequently, they have filed an appeal with the local courts to stop the bulldozers, which have been threatening to show up for some time. Zoltán Jakab, speaking on behalf of Centrifuga Kft. expressed hope that the current situation can be resolved and that the Kultiplex can still hold its planned hip-hop party tonight. If not, then there goes another one. Bummer.
