Last week I was rewarded big by Central European University for being somewhat gainfully employed six months after graduating. Here’s the story: Back in December I took fifteen minutes out of my workday (just kidding, Erik!) to fill out a 15-page online “Destinations” report, a.k.a. a graduate success gauge. Of the 143 respondents, an unfortunate 20% were “doing nothing”, though it is possible this number had something to do with the fact that recent grads “doing nothing” were more likely to take the time to fill out the survey, particularly since participants were offered the chance to win one of several prizes, none of which seemed to be aimed at helping them get ahead out in the real world.
It seems I really lucked out, because not only am I not doing nothing with my CEU degree, I managed to avoid getting either first or second prize in the “contest”: A weekend getaway-for-two at the CEU Residence Center on scenic Kerepesi út (first prize), and a free ticket to the Alumni Danube Cruise (second). Instead, I won the third – and best – prize, an MP4/WMA player like the one pictured above, which has already cut my workplace productivity by at least 20%, and made it 20% more likely I’ll get canned before my six month “probation” period is over, and join the other 20% of recent CEUers doing nothing. Still – thanks, George!

LOL!
