Watch That Melon, It's Gonna Blow!!

Well, well, well, it turns out that the melon-sized meteor (pictured again, below) that recently fell on Hungary was not a meteor at all, but an experiment by a handful of rogues who enjoy a spot of chemistry, reports hirszerzo.hu. The crater discovered on Friday in a field near Bonyhád was caused by an explosion of a home-made bomb made from fertilizer, diesel oil and fireworks, the Tolna County Police announced on Tuesday. The four perpetrators aged between 16 and 30 were rounded up from the surrounding towns and villages on Saturday and admitted causing the explosion.

They had buried the bomb in the ground and used a detonator to explode it from a distance of around 100 meters. Police also said that the men had previously pulled several similar stunts and recorded them on video, but when their latest and biggest prank made the papers, they quickly deleted all files. They chose a deserted location to explode the bomb and had no intention of using it for any other purpose, although they are being charged with misusing explosives.
