Dismal Ferencváros Still Hoping for Promotion to First League
After the sale of Dorge Kouemah to Debrecen for an undisclosed fee, the financial situation of FC Tatabánya has stabilized, which ensures its place in the NB1, reports Origo.hu. Sports daily Nemzeti Sport, is not so sure, however, and believes the club is still Ft 40 million (€160,000) short of retaining its license. This is all of great significance to Ferencváros, who embarrassingly failed to achieve promotion from the second division after being barred from the top league for financial problems of their own this time last year. Despite a full squad of first division players and opposition hailing from villages even many Hungarians could not point to on a map, the club came in second to Nyíregyháza. Off the pitch, the stadium and the surrounding land, partly owned by the state, is being put up for auction. The conditions of the sale, expected to bring in Ft 8.2 billion (€33 million), include renovation of the stadium and its rental back to the club. The words "Malév Hungarian Airlines" spring to mind.
