Moulin Rouge Returns, And This Time It's For Hungarians Too
The on-off existence of the Moulin Rouge, one of Budapest's most decadent venues, has been a constant source of confusion. As far as anyone could tell, the Baroque club only opened its doors when it felt like it. But the four-page ad in free program handout Pesti Est is to be believed, the MR is back, and this time it's here to stay - with lower prices and a stricter dress code to go with the staples of live music, food, revue shows and dancing into the early hours. The sparse official website says that the updated venue, with a grand re-opening on Friday night, is targeted at Hungarians - as well as the traditional well-heeled foreigner - who are looking for a sophisticated evening's entertainment among a select crowd.
Entry on Fridays and Saturdays will be Ft 4,000 for the guys and Ft 2,000 for the ladies, with an additional Ft 4,000 flat fee for seat reservations that will be subtracted from the final tab. If that is too much for the wallet, give the Moulin Rouge a test run on a Wednesday night, when entry is free for everyone before 11 p.m.
