Media Notes (I): Breaching the Digital Divide

If you're one of those people who is concerned that the digital revolution is passing by the less-fortunate members of Hungarian society, take heart in the above photos we received via a long email chain ending in contributor A.C. On the left is a typical Carpathian-basin style rural hovel occupied by luckless sorts bereft of the benefits of the latest in modern communication technology, and on the right is the same typical Carpathian-basin style rural hovel... with a brand-new Digi TV satellite dish.
Unfortunately, given how long the chain of emails was, we're not 100% sure that the pics are actually from Hungary, and a glance at Digi TV's corporate site reveals that the company only started offering such gizmos in Hungary after its success in Romania. Still, the firm has apparently signed up more than 100,000 subscribers in a mere four months in Hungary, suggesting that the digitally deprived in Hungary will soon be as comfortably hooked-up as the more innovative "early adopters" in the village hovels across the border.
