Vajna's Missing Bridge Reappears in Post Production
After apparently losing his long-time young girlfriend and leading lady Kata Dobó last week, mega producer Andy Vajna seems to have misplaced a bridge in his latest film, Children of Glory, only to find it again. But only after some prompting from film geeks at TV blog comment:com, who spotted - or rather, didn't spot - the missing Kossuth Bridge (pictured in all its original glory) on the trialer scene where the 1956 protesters cross Margit híd.
The original preview shot across the Danube, with the Parliament to the left and Buda Castle to the right, doesn't feature the bridge, a temporary construction built as a stopgap after Budapest's other crossing points were destroyed during the war. Since the mistake came to light, the film's press office has been working overtime to deny the accusations, hurriedly pasting in the bridge (see pic, right, which looks little like the actual Kossuth híd) and claiming that these details will, of course, be added to the final cut. While they are at it, they should remember that the dome on the Buda Palace was also destroyed during the seige of Budapest and has been rebuilt since 1956, as well as a number of other pointers given by comment:com commenters. And when the dust settles, there is one thing to be grateful for - at least the movie was actually shot in Budapest, and not Munich or Buenos Aires.
