Actually, Lothar, Everyone Thought You Were a Moron
So it's official: loathsome megalomaniac Lothar Matthäus, the former German football star who was drafted two years ago to coach Hungary's national soccer club, has moved on to greener pastures - jungle, actually. According to this piece (second) item, Matthäus has signed on with Brazil's Atletico Paranaense. While his departure wasn't unexpected, and we don't really give a shit either way, we can't help but have a little sniggle at the epic cluelessness demonstrated by this parting comment from the Man Who Was Supposed to Make Us Champions:
I am extremely sorry that I was believed a moron by some of the Hungarian Soccer Federation's managers for six months. I learned to love this city, this country, and its people, and let's just say if in a year things smooth out within the federation, I'd be happy to return to Hungarian soccer.
Believed a moron by some of the Hungarian Soccer Federation's managers for six months? How about believed a moron by everyone in Hungary for the last two years? As for whether the Brazilians are morons for taking our rotten leftovers, the answer seems to be not really: according to the same report, Paranaense has only signed the big M to a nine-month contract.
