but seriously
Tuesday Briefs: Icy Grip of Death Edition

Alas, we're going to have to take most of the rest of the day off, again because of pressing secret project needs. But we may be back later with a few fun posts, including one with some spectacularly gratuitous nudity. Wink wink, nudge, nudge, say no more. Plus, dig this:
• Two tractor-trailers had accidents during the night. The driver of a kamion was seriously injured when his vehicle slipped into the ditch on Nagykőrösi út, and one person was seriously injured when a Slovak kamion jackknifed on the M7 between Polgárdi and Szabadbattyán, and two cars ran into it. • One person died when a car slipped on the wet, icy road between Veszprém and Várpalota last night, careened into the other lane and crashed into a car coming from the opposite direction. Two other cars ran into the vehicles, and two people were injured, one seriously. [uno.hu]
• Professional hunters say hunting accidents are "coded into the system," as it costs only Ft 50,000 (€200) to buy a gun and acquire a hunting permit in Hungary. The indicent which claimed the life of a politician on Saturday was the fifth hunting-related fatality this season, not counting all the furry little critters blown away. [hirado.hu]
• Employees of Magyar Suzuki Rt will stage a protest in front of the company's factory in Esztergom on December 1st, because they are made to work like Japanese. (Before the factory opened in 1992, workers were sent to Japan for a few months, from where many of them returned very soon, saying the pace of work was unbearable.) On Thursday, workers will protest because they don't receive enough vacation time, often have to work on Saturdays and don't even have time to use the bathroom. Suzuki Assistant CEO István Fórián says it isn't true about the bathroom: workers get two ten-minute breaks and a thirty-minute lunch break every day. [fn]
• Esztergom Mayor Meggyes Tamás is criticizing the government's plan for "baby bonds", because he believes the amount promised for children is not enough for either studying futher or making a home. Esztergom has already introduced its version of babakötvények. Every baby receives Ft 500,000 before they are one year old, and an additional Ft 50,000 a year until they are 21. The condition for taking out the money is that they stay in Esztergom and spend it on either education or buying a home, and not go to the bathroom until they are 50. [napi online]
• We got our friggin' asses handed to us in last night's Pot-limit Omaha round of the Budapest Poker Open, though honestly, it was mostly due to a run of crappy cards. It's too late to register for the main event of the series - the No-limit Texas Hold'em tournament featuring 240 players - but there are still a few spots at some of the other mini-tournaments. And even if you crap out like us, you still get to chow down on free food and then flush what's left in your wallet down one of the blackjack tables. Grrr. [official site]
• A family of five found their house burned to the ground in Lajosmizse (Bács-Kiskun County) when they arrived home yesterday afternoon. The closest house is more than a kilometer away, which is why no one noticed the fire earlier. The most possible cause of the fire was a short circuit. [ma.hu]
• Hungary's strongest lobbying group was recently created to support the Olympic Games in Budapest. Among the founders of the Budapest Olympics Movement (BOM) are Hungary's most successful enterprises OTP, Mol, T-Mobile, Trigránit and the Budapest Stock Exchange (BÉT). The founders believe that the dream of holding the Olympic Games in Budapest in 2016 or 2020 is an attainable dream. [index.hu]
