Online Game Gives Points for Zapping Greedy Hungo Yuppies
As you may have heard, it's national budgeting season again in Hungary, and believe it or not, the government wants your input! As they did last year, the number-crunchers at the finance ministry have put up an online game where web-enabled armchair financial whizzes can play around with the coming year's budget. And just like last year, they are promising that every e-budget submitted will be read and considered. Okay, so they probably don't really care about or even want your input; they just want you to understand how difficult it is to balance the books of a country in which almost everyone is slurping on the government teat. Still, it's pretty fun.
And more than just being fun, it's instructive. As we discovered last year, the game offers a user-friendly way to demonstrate that, even in Hungary, it's possible to balance the budget while only putting the squeeze on those tax-eaters who shouldn't be getting government handouts in the first place (like annoying yuppies and their annoying kids, pictured above in an icon from the game). In fact, it's the best online economics quiz we've ever taken, at least the best one that didn't include gratuitous nudity, no doubt because they didn't want everyone to actually play.
