The 2005 Pestiside-Havaianas Beautiful Feet Contest

The moment has arrived when we can finally announce what we believe to be the most exciting readership contest ever organized by any international publication in Hungarian history. No, we are not launching one of those "Best Moving Company" or "Best Copy Shop" competitions in which readers are asked to pick from among a group of service providers that most people don't give a dog's bottom about.

Instead, we are talking about something much, much more interesting - and much more important. For today we launch the first annual Pestiside-Havaianas Most Beautiful Feet in Hungary contest. With the support and participation of our good friends at Havaianas, the São Paulo-based producer of the world's best rubber sandals, over the next month we are going to be using the power of the Internet to discover who out there has the best-looking and best cared-for pair of feet in Budapest.

Beautiful feet? Are we kidding? Well, we joke a lot, but never about something as vital as our feet, which carry us around from the moment we are born to the moment we die, and seldom if ever get the recognition they deserve. But with summer just around the corner - and with it the return of open-toed footwear - now is the time that we must all take a little time to give the little fellas the love and attention they deserve.

So to help spread an appreciation for beautiful and healthy feet, we are hereby accepting nominations for the best-looking pair of peds in Hungary. For the next several months, readers from all over Hungary are invited to submit snapshots of their feet, and those of their loved ones, to our official Most Beautiful Feet in Hungary Contest page, which we will be updating daily. In the first week of June, a panel of experts will judge the entries, and award the following prizes to the winners:

Grand Prize: Three pairs of Havaianas sandals and three deluxe pedicures.

Second Prize:
Two pairs of Havaianas sandals and two deluxe pedicures.

Third Prize:
One pair of Havaianas sandals and a deluxe pedicure.

What's that? Your feet are too ugly? No worries, because there will also be a prize for the ugliest feet in Hungary, in the form of three deluxe pedicures and three pairs of Havaianas socks.

Contest Rules:

1. All submissions should be sent in the form of .jpg or .gif photographs to feet@pestiside.hu. 2. Each submission will consist of one photo per pair of feet. 3. Each submission must be sent from the contestant's own email address, to which a confirmation email and prize notification can be sent. 4. All feet appearing in the submission must be 18 years of age or older. 5. If requested the contestant will submit to an examination by contest judge(s) to verify that the feet in question do in fact belong to said contestant. 6. All submitted images become the property of Pestiside.hu and the contestant waives the rights for Pestiside.hu and Havaianas to use the images for promotional or other purposes. 7. Pestiside.hu and Havaianas will select the panel of judges whose decisions will final. 8. Arrangements for the fulfillment of all prizes will be made by Pestiside.hu and Havaianas. Receipt of prizes is conditioned upon compliance with any and all applicable laws, rules and regulations, and winners of any prize(s) will be solely responsible for payment of any applicable taxes. 9. Email submissions featuring really, really ugly feet should be given a subject line reading "WARNING: REALLY, REALLY UGLY FEET." 10. Photo submissions should not contain any unlawful, defamatory or pornographic content, unless absolutely necessary.
