In Today's Papers: Holy Metro 4!

• The epic struggle to build a new metro line in Budapest has taken another twist. According to gondola.hu, the reason Baross tér (the square in front of Keleti train station) is partially closed isn't construction of Metro 4, but the building of a new exit from Metro 2, despite the earlier claims of Budapest Mayor Gábor Demszky. There are also some posters on the square that read, "Metro 4 is under construction." At a press conference held on the square, opposition MP Zsolt Wintermantel said his people visited the site to find out the truth and only found a hole, which turned out to be part of the reconstruction of Metro 2. At least he didn't find a 100-ton World War II barge stuffed with high explosives.
• Fifty-four bee families were stolen from a forest in Jánkmajtis (Szabolcs County) on Tuesday, hirado.hu reports. The unknown thief took thirty-eight beehives with the bees in them worth Ft 2 million (€8,100). Police have started an investigation to find the bee-thief.
More stinging news, after the jump...
• The Democratic Trade Union of Educators (PDDSZ) says it's impossible to introduce Education Minister Bálint Magyar's regulation governing the maxiumum weight of children's school bags. Under the decree, starting in September children between the ages of six and 10 would only be allowed to carry bags of up to three kilos. The PDDSZ said it agrees with the aim of the regulation, which is apparently to make sure the tykes don't hurt their backs, but believes it needs to be revised, because some kids simply have too many books. For his part, Magyar said it was unnecessary to revise the regulation, because the problem could be solved if children left certain books at school every day, MNO writes.
• A torch-light procession in memory of the late Pope John Paul II will be leaving Puskás Ferenc Stadion tonight at 8:00, uno.hu writes. The procession will visit the locations where the Pope met the people in 1991. The memorial march will end at Mátyás Church.
• Despite its three previous failures to sell ailing state air carrier Malév Rt, the State Privatization and Holding Company (ÁPV Rt) insists that this time there is loads of interest. Instead of a formal tender as in previous attempts, this time the ÁPV Rt is just negotiating with whomever wants to buy the airline and save it from this.
