Local Man Discovers Solution to BP Motorcycle Noise

An unidentified man was disarmed by police commandos early Saturday morning after firing a shotgun several times to underscore his displeasure with the noise emanating from a construction site across the street from his Eighth District apartment building. According to the police, the man fired three rounds into the air, and then shot once into a small structure in which a guard protecting the site was apparently cowering. The man, an amateur hunter, had earlier expressed his anger to the guard about the unending noise at the site, which was preventing him from sleeping. The guard was evidently unable to explain to his interlocutor why he shouldn't make a little noise of his own, which he then proceeded to do, big-time.
Here's where it gets interesting: after surrendering peacefully to the platoon of police commandos who raided his flat on Saturday morning, the gunman was out of custody by dinner. Because - get this - according to the prosecutor general's office, there were insufficient legal grounds for keeping him in custody. And this was even though he had at one point threatened to kill the police for getting between him and a good night's sleep. Eventually, the man was charged with a misdemeanor and let go.
Now, we would never, ever suggest that violence is the best way to deal with a problem. But we'd also be lying if we didn't admit to looking out our window while a phalanx of earsplitting motorcycles raced by and occasionally wishing we had a water balloon or a piece of fruit or, say, a Ruger K77/17 Varmint .17 rimfire semi-auto. And now that we know that shooting people who make obnoxious noise in the middle of the night is only considered a misdemeanor in Budapest, well, let's just say that, if you are planning on taking your hog out for a spin tonight, you might want to avoid the area around the Basilica. At least if you're not wearing body armor.
