Pestiside Staff: Erik D'Amato
Pestiside editor/publisher Erik D'Amato has almost fifteen years' experience in journalism and second-language publishing, spanning two dozen countries on five continents. A specialist in developing and transitional economies, he has been an editor of the Prague and Budapest Business Journals, Emerging Markets, the traveling newspaper for delegates to the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, and World Markets Advisory, the newsletter of Sir Alan Walters, former chief economic advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. He has also served as a consultant to the World Bank Group, an investment promotion advisor to more than a dozen developing countries, an advertising salesperson, an agent for the leading international private investigations firm, and an analyst at a Washington-based advisory group headed by a former National Security Adviser to the President of the United States. In 1992, in Dakar, Senegal, he negotiated the first public meeting of economic officials and diplomats representing the government of South Africa and the African National Congress to be held in a majority-ruled African country.
In addition to his writing on public policy and business, his general-interest and humor writing has been featured in a number of well-known consumer magazines, including Men's Health, Mademoiselle and Psychology Today, and he has been a regular commentator on the BBC World Service. He began his career in journalism in the early 1980s as an editorial assistant at the Star, the popular American tabloid weekly.
